g a high-speed accident at the world champ

WINNIPEG -- Al Montoya says hes happy to return as the backup goaltender for the Winnipeg Jets after agreeing to a new contract Thursday that keeps him from testing free agency. "I really enjoyed my time last year," he said of his first, abbreviated season with the Jets. "This is a good group, a good team. We came so close last year. For me I like the coaching staff, I love working with the goalie coach (Wade Flaherty) so it was pretty simple." He credits Flaherty with helping him return to a more natural athletic style of play. "Somewhere along the way I kind of lost my own game and with Flatts I kind of got it back . . . I didnt play much last year but the games I did play in I felt my careers going in the direction I want and I have a lot more to show." With his signing, the Jets have locked up the only unrestricted free agents general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff seemed eager to retain this year. The other was defenceman Grant Clitsome, signed earlier this week to a three-year, $6.2-million deal. The Jets didnt release details of Montoyas contract but it was reportedly a one-year deal for the same $601,000 he pulled in last season. Montoya squeezed in a quick conference call from Miami where hes attending his brothers wedding. The 28-year-old played in seven games for the Jets last season, starting five and ending the season with a record of 3-1-0, a 2.91 goals against average and 0.899 save percentage. He has suited up for 63 career NHL games between the Phoenix Coyotes, New York Islanders and Jets for a 24-18-10 career record, 2.77 goals against average and 0.906 career save percentage. The Chicago native was originally drafted sixth overall by the New York Rangers in 2004. Montoyas time on the ice was limited due to injury last season but he says hes feeling great this summer and anxious to start playing hockey again. "With the Olympic break coming up I dont expect the pace of this season to be much different." He says he and the Jets starting netminder Ondrej Pavelec enjoy pushing each other in practice. "We definitely push each other. . . it makes you a better player at the end of the day." He also says he likes living in Winnipeg and the strong fan support. "The citys great, my family liked it, and I think the teams moving in the right direction." Zach LaVine Jersey . “The shootout, theres nothing wrong with it, I think its an exciting part of the game but its just one small aspect,” said Chicago Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman. “Its a skill exhibition. If you can get it back closer to regular hockey and have it decided that way; that would be my preference.” “I dont think its a knock on the shootout, I think more of the managers would like to see it end in overtime,” added Washington Capitals GM George McPhee. Nikola Mirotic Jersey . Mired in an offensive slump, Lowry - the NBAs leader in taking charges this season - did what he has learned to do best, standing his ground and drawing a crucial offensive foul on the Cavaliers all-star point guard. Fast forward 30 seconds to the Cavs next possession, with the home team still trailing by three, Spencer Hawes - one of the leagues best passing big men - threw an interception, intended for Tyler Zeller and picked off by DeMar DeRozan. http://www.authenticbullsauthority.com/ … sey-c-12/. Omar Rahou made the discriminatory gesture several times while celebrating scoring a goal against Romania at Antwerp in January, UEFA said. The sanction was double the five-match ban Nicolas Anelka received from an English Football Association independent tribunal last week for the same act. Bobby Portis Jersey . Less than 24 hours later, in the same arena, he tried to recreate the magic of his all-time favourite player. Hilliard scored a career-high 26 points and No. Dwyane Wade Jersey .The long-haired pivot, who joined the Alouettes midway through the CFL season and put up a 9-3 record as a starter, will be listed as the top quarterback in training camp next spring. With a full training camp under his belt, the Alouettes will see if he has what it takes to get them back to the Grey Cup game after a four-year absence.VAIL, Colo. -- Lindsey Vonn is energized by her progress in recovering from a knee injury and might be in the starting gate next week in Canada. Vonn spoke with The Associated Press on Friday after three early super-G training runs. This was her first big test since she crashed during training at Copper Mountain last week and partially tore a reconstructed ligament in her right knee. "Definitely, Im encouraged," she said. "Its looking a lot better than everyone expected. Things are going well." Wearing a brightly colored jacket over her speed suit, the reigning Olympic downhill champion took an easy opening run through the course on a crisp morning. On her second pass, Vonn got a little more aggressive, picking up more speed as she glided down the hill. For her third and final run, she opened it up even more to see how her knee responded. "So far, so good," she said after her workout. So much so she remains hopeful she might race in Alberta next week. Asked about her readiness for Lake Louise, Vonn said: "Im not sure yet. As it looks right now, yeah." She concedes theres plenty more work to do to get into shape. "Im taking it day by day. Im not pushing it that hard yet," Vonn said. "Today, I was just kind of feeling it out. But tthe last run was better.dddddddddddd It was more like normal. Im skiing in my clothes and seeing how things go so far. Im not taking unnecessary risks yet." Some say Vonn shouldnt push so soon, especially with the Sochi Games not until February. Why not come back in January to give her surgically repaired knee more time to heal? "Because I want to start in Lake Louise," Vonn said of a course she dominates so much its known as "Lake Lindsey." She laughed as she unbuckled her ski boots and stuffed them into her car. "Im just going to progress every day until Lake Louise," Vonn said. Vonn spent Thanksgiving Day squeezing in a little free skiing, posting on her Facebook page: "First day back on snow since my crash and it was awesome!" She also attached a picture of herself -- grinning -- on an empty slope in Vail. This, however, was a bigger step. The 29-year-old Vonn is not planning to attend the season-opening World Cup downhill on the new Beaver Creek course on Friday because "its too hard on me." Vonn had her sights set on returning for this race after tearing ligaments in her right knee during a high-speed accident at the world championships in February. She was on target, too, before her Copper Mountain crash.
